ILLICIT BREW RAID AT TURKWE TULUONGOI SUBLOCATION, BARINĢO SOUTH

The famous Illicit brew known as "Machwere" prepared in Turkwe Village Tuluongoi SubLocation was today around 3:10pm raided by the local administration. The police officers from Tenges accompanied by the Senior Chief Mr. Michael Kiplimo and his assistant Mr. Bethwel Kipchilat , destroyed several cans used in preparing and storing the brew. Over 200 litres of Illicit stuff was poured though the culprits were not found at the scene.

The fight over the illegal business began sometimes back.  On 20th February 2025, the concern residents  began the journey to rid out the illicit brews from the community and related vices. They  petitioned the chief  Chief and his Assistant Chief to act, who then  gave  them until 31st March to take meaningful steps. They did nothing.

On 10th April 2025, they escalated the matter to the County Commissioner and DCC. They made  the petition to  the authorities to act in protection of the community.The religious leaders and people of good were urged to take up their rightful position in steering their community towards the light. The concerns on the petition to authority were as follows:

1. To take immediate and decisive action to stop the production, distribution, sale and consumption of Illicit brews and hard drugs within Tuluongoi SubLocation. 

2. To facilitate the seizure and confiscation of all illegal slot machines operating in the area.

3. To ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals engaged in the production, distribution and sale of Illicit brews and alcohol as well as those operating slot machines, contrary to the provisions of Alcohol Drink Control Act, the Betting, Lotteries and Gaming Act and all applicable laws.

4. To take all necessary steps to cause deployment of officers from the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) and other relevant Agencies to Tuluongoi SubLocation  to oversee the rehabilitation of residents  adversely affected by Illicit alcohol, brews and drugs.

5. To cause the Directorate  of Criminal investigation (DCI) and other relevant Agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the drug and Illicit brew trade in the area including identifying and dismantling all distribution network and sources of raw materials.

6. To investigate with the view of taking necessary administrative  and disciplinary action, the role played by the Chief Tuluongoi SubLocation and the Assistant  Chief Tuluongoi SubLocation  in abetting, facilitating and entrenching the production,  distribution and trade of Illicit brews in Tuluongoi SubLocation.

According to the lead brewer, it is alleged that he wants to share the process of alcohol preparation and desire to watch the results of what will happen.  He has surrendered the exercise but has targeted the 17 households to gear up the stuff preparation. 

"I have surrendered  but you will see many houses preparing such alcohol so that it will be hard for you to run after them.The process is very simple. It is called revenge.", the daring brewer is alleged to have assured the residents through one of their social forums.

The petitioners humbly submitted the petition and pleaded for an urgent intervention as the societal fabric of their community is deteriorating under the watch of their officers.
