ONE SHOT DEAD AS FRESH LAND CLASHES ERUPT

One shot dead as fresh land clashes erupt One person was killed and four others injured yesterday after violence erupted at the troubled Ngongongeri Farm in Njoro. Njoro acting OCPD Janet Wasike said members of the Ogiek community attacked a land owner who was ploughing his farm. "Members of the community attacked the man and in self-defence , he shot at them and killed person," said Wasike. She said the members of the community then mobilised attackers who shot people living in the farms using arrows. "The members were angered by shooting and started attacking people living in the farms, leading to the casualties admitted at the Rift Valley General Hospital," She said. Tension was high last evening as the contingent of police officers were deployed to the troubled land , which has experienced clashes for the last one month. Members of the Ogiek want the Government to give them portions of the privately owned farms. Larry Keitany who is nursing injuries at the hospital said he was taking care of one of the farms when he was confronted by armed youths who ordered him to sit down and later shot him in the stomach.
