Pupils of Tabarin Primary school in Tenges, Baringo Central Sub-County are at risk of being hurt physically and health wise due to the delapitated condition of their lavatory.
The school which has only one washroom, in the same block, being shared by both boys and girls also faces the risk of being closed down by Public Health officers.
Visible cracks on it's wall portend a real threat to the pupils, which already signify an erroneous and substandard construction of the facility.
According to Milca Biwott, the Headmistress, the latrines pose a great danger and it's a time bomb as it's an imminent risk of caving-in on the pupils.
However, Miss Biwott says that the pupils have no other alternative, since the crumbling toilet is the only latrine , which the pupils are forced to use.
"It has been in this condition, since last year and it's a risk to the children, because it can collapse anytime," said the headteacher.
In addition, she said that, other structures in the school are in stable condition. She urges the government, to intervene speedily, as
it may be more detrimental and injurious to the young and innocent pupils.
According to United Nations Children's Fund, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (UNICEF WASH) program, it's recommended that, every school should access proper Sanitation and the recommended, Pupil : Latrine ratio, should be 38:1 and 32:1 for boys and girls, in public schools respectively.
